A Facebook Post Saved Jayne Dandy’s Life

Jayne Dandy, aged 50, was feeling perfectly fit and healthy when a Facebook post made her curious regarding breast cancer

The post was originally written by Hayley Browning, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer just a few weeks earlier. She then wanted to share her trick and discoveries with other women who might be in the same spot as she was.

“I could only feel the lump whilst lying down and it completely disappeared standing up,” the UK woman explained in her post. “Most websites tell you to check for lumps in the shower, but if I had followed this advice, the lump may have grown too large to be treatable.

“So, this is a callout to all women to check for lumps lying down, as well as standing up.”

That very night, Dandy took her advice and checked her breast through the recommended method, by laying down. She discovered a lump in her right breast and her doctor told her that, unfortunately, she suffered from an aggressive form of cancer. She went through a mastectomy and a course of chemotherpay.

Fortunately, she has recently been given the all-clear sign and is now out of the woods.

“I really think it was fate. I am and will be eternally grateful to Hayley Browning for sharing her story on Facebook that fateful day.” Dandy said

She furthered mentioned that she didn’t even drink or smoke, and was extremely active, living a healthy lifestyle.

“It’s a sobering thought to think that but for that one post, things could have ended up with a very different outcome for me.”

At the same time, Browning, who wrote the post that saved Dandy, now works for Breast Cancer Care and said that she was tremendously “overwhelmed with emotion” when Dandy contacted her.

“When I wrote the post, I never imagined the reach it would have and it’s really thanks to every single person who shared it and helped get the message out there.”
