Donald Trump to Donate $1 Million from his Own Pocket to Harvey’s Victims

President Trump has promised to donate $1 million to the storm victims in Texas and Louisiana

“He would like to join in the efforts that a lot of the people that we’ve seen across this country do,” Sarah Sanders, White House press secretary said

Moreover, she added that the president is still not decided when or where he will send the donation.

“He actually asked that I check with the folks in this room, since you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into the groups and organizations that are best and most effective in helping and providing aid, and he’d love some suggestions from the folks here and I’d be happy to take those,” she told reporters.

Donald Trump’s promise is one of the largest financial commitments made by a president to a charitable cause. Ms. Huckabee said that she was not sure whether the donation would come from Mr. Trump’s foundation or personal bank account, saying that it would come from the president’s “personal” funds.

However, the size of Trump’s fortune has been a debated topic for a long time, with the president estimating it at more than $10 billion. At the same time, the president has previously failed to keep his promise on donations from his non-profit foundation.

It is important to mention that the commitment is part of a larger campaign to make Americans donate to charities that are involved in the recovery from Harvey. Trump’s campaign organization sent out an email on Tuesday, requesting cash contributions to a number of charities in the Gulf.

Furthermore, the president was deeply touched by the situation, as he tweeted: “After witnessing first-hand the horror & devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, my heart goes out even more so to the great people of Texas!”
