Group of European universities to found new academic centre

World leading universities will launch the Guild of European Research Intensive Universities in Brussels

European universities attaining excellent results regarding teaching, research and policy formation will unite to found a group that will address innovative solutions to the continent’s most challenging scientific and social problems.

Representatives of universities from renowned city-centers such as Bologna, Glasgow, Göttingen, Groningen, Krakow, Oslo, Tübingen, Uppsala and Warwick will gather in Brussels to found the Guild on 21st of November 2016.

Professor Ole Petter Ottersen, Chairman of the GERIU Board, commented on the event:

“The Guild represents a fresh approach to engagement and capacity building across Europe. We are excited by the prospect of engaging closely with the European Commission, European and national parliamentarians, officials and others to secure outstanding strategic and practical outcomes that will benefit the myriad communities of Europe.”

Besides Professor Ottersen, big academic names will occupy key positions into the Guild, as follows: Professor Anton Muscatelli (Glasgow) vice-Chair; Professor Stanislaw Kistryn (Krakow) Treasurer and Professor Jan Palmowski (Warwick) Secretary General.
