Major markets prefer Facebook for social networking

It is estimated that during 2016 67.4% of internet users worldwide will own social network accounts

Facebook is the social network platform that currently dominates the global market. Except for users from Russia and China, most of the people prefer Facebook to other networking platforms.

As reviewed in the report “Global Social Platforms 2016: A Country-by-Country Review of Social Network Usage” powered by eMarketer, Instagram is also gaining popularity, but only in addition to Facebook accounts, rather than an alternative. The average age of the most active social users on the market has been calculated between 16 and 24 years old.

When it comes to messaging apps, Line is the leading service in Japan, while WhatsApp is the number one choice of both Germans and Netherlanders, with an average usage higher than Facebook.

According to the data that Facebook collected during the fourth quarter of 2015, people are beginning to use their mobile phones to access their social network accounts. The platform registered a total of 1.4 billion monthly active mobile users worldwide, accounting for a 21.3% increase. Facebook’s “Free Basics” app is considered to be the main reason for this growth, despite it has been recently banned in markets in Egypt and India.

Moreover, the number of consumers spending their time on different social media platforms is expected to rise significantly in the near future.
