President Donald Trump Visits Pope Francis in Vatican

President Trump decided to shake hands with Pope Francis during a visit in Vatican, as a sign of respect and appreciation during the two leaders’ first meeting

Donald Trump was accompanied by a delegation that included first lady Melania, and their daughter Ivanka. Both women were wearing traditional black coverings on their heads. During the visit, the Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, Jared Kushner were both present. In addition to this, the delegation was also joined by Ivanka’s husband and the senior presidential adviser.

 

President Trump thanked Pope Francis during their shaking hands moment. The two of them went to Francis’ private study were they sat across from each other at the pontiff’s wooden desk. Trump also shared his appreciation, mentioning that “It’s a very great honor” at the beginning of their meeting.

 
The meeting between the two only lasted for 30 minutes. However, they managed to use their time in a productive manner. Trump exchanged his views of the world’s 1.2 bilion Roman Catholics with the spiritual leader.
This week the U.S. President is expected to attend a NATO meeting, as well as the annual Group of Seven summit of leaders in Taormina, Sicily.

 
Later today, President Trump will meet with the Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, in Rome.
