President Donald Trump said that the only reason why he gave such a vague statement on violence in Charlottesville, Virginia was because he was waiting for the facts
Trump has a history of labeling violence in foreign countries as terrorism even before any sort of official confirmation.
“I didn’t wait long. I didn’t wait long. I wanted to make sure, unlike most politicians, that what I said was correct, not make a quick statement,” said Trump
He then added that: “The statement I made on Saturday, the first statement, was a fine statement. But you don’t make statements that direct unless you know the facts. It takes a little while to get the facts.”
Soon after, in a moment in which Trump was not the same person that Americans met on the campaign trail, the President mentioned that he did not want to “go quickly and just make a statement for the sake of making a political statement.”
However, when he had to face potential terrorist attacks, he did not show any restraint.
Going back to 2016, Trump opened a speech while still on the campaign trail by saying to the crowd that “a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly what’s going on.”
Then, he added: “But boy, we are living in a time — we better get very tough, folks. We better get very, very tough.”
Trump’s comment came hours before New York officials brought to the light details of what actually happened and what caused the explosion. Twenty nine people were hurt after a blast took place in Chelsea neighborhood. Fortunately, the suspect was later arrested in New Jersey.
