Rebecca Bredow, aged 40, refused to vaccinate her son despite the judge’s order and served five days in the Oakland County Jail
The boy’s father, James Horne, wanted his son to get vaccinated and had them done on Monday, when he had custody of the child. The 9-year-old boy received 4 immunizations according to the court’s testimony.
After the court hearing, through his attorney, James Horne declined to make any comments. On the other hand, the mother fought back tears as she spoke about her jail stint and the rulings.
“It was the worst five days of my life, except for the fact that I just found out that he was vaccinated and I’m not going to get him back today,” Bredow said. “It’s been a rough few days to say the least.”
Bredow was sentenced to serve seven days, but the Oakland County Jail awards inmates with one day of service for every five days that they serve successfully. Bredow was released on her sixth day, on Monday.
The couple separated before the boy was born in 2008, and ever since Bredow owned custody, while Horne has taken his son on alternate weekends.
However, this has changed as the judge approved a recommendation from a court referee to have the custody split 50-50.
This case is the second one in McDonald’s court where split parents do not agree on the subject of vaccinating their child.
