Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip will be stepping back from all of his royal duties, starting in the fall.
Even so, he will honor all the previously scheduled engagements that will take place until August, both on his own and accompanying the Queen.
The Buckingham Palace also added that:
“Thereafter, the Duke will not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements, although he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time.”
This decision benefited from the full support of the Queen. Moreover, it does not affect future official engagements as the longest-reigning monarch will carry on its program.
Apparently, there was an emergency all-staff meeting at the Palace that the people found out about and leaked the information. More than that, unfounded speculation appeared that one of the royal family’s senior members had died.
It only took a few minutes for the fake rumors to spread all over the internet. Even though the Queen has had a “heavy cold” and Prince Philip suffered a few minor illnesses, they are both in a generally good health and able to attend royal engagements.
On Wednesday, the Queen had a meeting with Theresa May, Prime Minister, to discuss the future election. At the same time, Prince Philip appeared at the Lords Cricket Ground, where he opened a new grandstand and even joked that he was “the world’s most experienced plaque unveiler.”
