Trump Administration decided to order almost two-thirds of Cuba’s diplomatic personnel to leave the US following months of “attacks” that have damaged the health of US embassy staff in Havana
The US State Department is expected to announce the decision today. This announcement comes after US’ decision on Friday to cut its diplomatic presence in Cuba by more than half. Moreover, it warned the US citizens not to visit due to unexplained incidents that have caused hearing loss, dizziness and fatigue among US embassy personnel.
The latest plan to have been released and become available to the public was first reported by the Miami Herald, which cited a source that said the explosion of Cuban personnel was “reciprocity” for the US draw down from Havana.
Back in 2016, US diplomats began suffering unexplained losses of hearing, dizziness and fatigue. Some of the diplomats’ symptoms were so severe that they were forced to return to the US for treatment. After investigations, US officials concluded that the diplomats had been exposed to an advanced device that operated outside the range of audible sound. However, it was not immediately clear if the device was used as a weapon in a deliberate attack or had some other unknown purpose.
