The bomb attack targeted the Afghan intelligence staff and resulted in the tragic death of at least 24 people, while others were injured
The attack took place on Monday morning, as an Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman mentioned. The 24 people have been killed in a car bomb attack in Kabul.
The explosion took place around 6:40 a.m. local time (10:10 pm ET), when a Toyota Corolla exploded in the Police District 3, as Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish reported.
The Taliban took responsibility for the attack, as a local statement to the journalists says.
Apparently, the group was targeting a bus that was carrying Afghan intelligence staff. However, it is still not clear if the targeted individual were the victims of the attack.
The Chief Executive of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, condemned the attack.
“I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on civil servants in Kabul today,” a tweet from him reads. “Our security institutes will hold perpetrators accountable.”
More than that, President Ashraf Ghani’s office also released a similar statement.
“The enemy of Afghanistan can’t face our forces in battle field so they target innocent civilians,” it said.
This bombing attack is the latest in a long line of attacks that took place in the Afghan capital. Last month, seven people were killed when suicide bombers struck the funeral of a senator’s son, who was killed during anti-government protests.
However, the Taliban denied any involvement in that attack that injured 119 people.
