Shocking rape video on social media in Brazil triggered police to hunt down 30 suspects
Police is searching for 30 men suspected of raping a teenage girl in Rio de Janeiro and posting the 40-second-video picturing their terrible actions on Twitter social media platform. The video was intensively shared and commented on.
The 16 years old girl was previously drugged and then dragged into a stranger’s house where the gang rape took place. Police issued arrest warrants for several suspects, including the teenager’s boyfriend.
As the girl’s grandmother declared for the local media representatives, the video is horrendous.
“I regretted watching it. When we heard the story we didn’t believe what was happening. It’s a great affliction. It’s a depressing situation. She is not well. She is very confused. This was very serious,” she stated.
The violent assault has shocked communities in the country and triggered an on-line campaign against the “culture of rape” in Brazil, under the hash-tag #EstuproNuncaMais.
Mass protests are expected to follow in the days to come.
